Saturation Point
Monday and Tuesday, Josh was sent to help "clean-up" a site that his work has been working on for like the past 3 years. Actually they were forced to do it or risk not getting paid for the work they have all been doing there. Problem was it was this storm drain that is short, even by my standards, and filled with silt, sand, rocks, and other crap the the archaeologists, construction workers, and general passerbyers have been dumping down it. This caused the thing to get clogged, so they figured the archaeologist should clean it (they like dirt don't they?). Anyway it was a messy, tedious, back-breaking job that he is very happy will not have to get sent out to do again (please no!)
So he came home yesterday with his work clothes in a plastic bag and told me he'd probably have to throw them out they're so dirty. Well right now he's off getting a massage as part of a pseudo-anniversary present, so I decided to try to wash the clothes. Ugh! I almost missed his white shirt because it was the same color as his black pants (which were originally gray). It automatically got tossed. The rest of the stuff was higher end stuff he had purchased at REI that I at least am not willing to just toss out with the leftover spaghetti. So I have spent the last hour, scrubbing, soaking, wringing, and rinsing the clothes until they at least look like they were not dripping mud or silt anymore. The point is, I HAD NO IDEA CLOTHES COULD BE THAT DIRTY!!! I had to change the water a dozen times just to get it to look like water instead of mud. So now they are at the point where if I put them in he washing machine they stand a chance of actually getting cleaned instead of wet. So I guess now I understand why my mom never wanted to play in a giant mudhole. Too much work!
Note to any of Josh's co-workers: If they ask you to help clean at Playa, RUN LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL in the OTHER direction. Not worth it for the per diem I don't care what you say!
But Josh is "Employee of the Month." Tell me all that wash isn't worth it.
Love you guys.
